*IDENTITY AND PURPOSE : THE LIFE OF A PROUD MALAY AND MUSLIM*

It is Valentine’s Day! I am filled with profound feelings about the day I was born. They call me the Valentine Boy, and indeed, I am. I lived abroad for 20 years. It was a big thing back then—a lover boy of February 14th, swinging in tango.
Fortunately or unfortunately, I am Ghafar Mohamad, not Rudolph Valentino, the Great Lover. Valentino was born in Castellaneta, Italy. I was born in Muar, Johore, and named Ghafar by my parents—a simple Malay boy, not like Valentino, who led a fascinating life.
I am a proud Malay and a Muslim. These identities are integral to my very being. Without them, I would be nobody. It is through my heritage and faith that I find strength, purpose, and a profound sense of belonging.
Being Malay and Muslim shapes my values, traditions, and worldview. My cultural roots and religious beliefs are the bedrock of my character, guiding my actions and decisions with wisdom and integrity. They instill in me a deep respect for my ancestry and a commitment to uphold the principles that have been passed down through generations.
I must stand tall, embracing who I am and what I represent. It is my duty and honor to uphold my heritage and faith, striving for excellence and making a positive impact on those around me. By doing so, I not only uplift myself but also contribute to the well-being of my community and society at large.
My journey is about making the best of my identity, leveraging the rich cultural and spiritual legacy I have inherited. As a Malay and a Muslim, I carry the responsibility to live with dignity, compassion, and a sense of justice. I am determined to make a difference, grounded in the strength of my Malay heritage and the wisdom of my Islamic faith.
In every endeavor, I seek to embody the noble qualities of my ancestors and the teachings of my faith. I aspire to be a beacon of hope, a model of resilience, and a source of inspiration for others. Through my actions, I aim to reflect the beauty and depth of my cultural and religious identity, proving that one can lead a life of purpose and honor by staying true to their roots.
In this ever-changing world, I am committed to preserving the values that define me and to contributing to the greater good. My heritage and faith are not just aspects of my identity; they are the guiding lights that illuminate my path, helping me navigate life’s challenges with grace and resolve.
I am Ghafar Mohamad, and I will stand up proudly, honoring who I am and what I represent, and making the best of every opportunity to lead a life of significance and virtue.
